With various transportation options available, navigating Lagos has become easier than ever. Here are some of the most effective ways to get around the city:

  • Navigate with danfo buses: Commercial buses known as danfo are the backbone of public transport in Lagos. These vibrant yellow buses connect various routes, allowing passengers to hop on and off easily. Fares are collected by conductors, so have your payment ready as you board.
  • Explore neighborhoods on rickshaws: Three-wheeled motorized rickshaws (kekes) have been a staple for neighborhood shuttles for over two decades. While motorcycles (okadas) are a faster option, they have been banned in certain areas to improve road safety.
  • Experience the Lagos Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system: The BRT offers high-capacity buses that travel down dedicated lanes throughout the city.

While not running within the core Lekki–Victoria Island–Ikoyi areas, it provides a great opportunity to see other neighborhoods.

  • Try Lagos Ride: This newer ride-hailing service, established by the state government, aims to provide safer, updated vehicles designed to replace aging taxis.

All vehicles come equipped with security features such as dashboard cameras and panic buttons.
  • Join the cycling community: Cycling is gaining traction in Lagos, especially on weekends when traffic eases.

When planning your visit to Lagos, timing is crucial to making the most of your experience. The ideal time to explore this vibrant city is during the dry season, which runs from November to January.

During these months, you’ll enjoy warm, sunny weather that’s perfect for wandering through bustling markets, lounging on beautiful beaches, and taking part in lively outdoor festivals. This period is also rich in cultural events, providing a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in the local traditions and lifestyle.

Visiting Lagos during the low season, from April to October, comes with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. On the plus side, you’ll encounter fewer crowds and often find better deals on accommodations and tours.

However, be prepared for heavy rainfall, which can affect travel plans and limit outdoor activities.

Despite these challenges, the low season presents a unique chance for a more relaxed visit, ideal for those who prefer to escape the hustle and bustle of peak tourist times.

Whether you choose to visit during the bustling dry season or the quieter low season, Lagos has something to offer at any time of the year. Plan according to your preferences, and you’ll be sure to have an unforgettable experience in this dynamic city!
